Description and Overview of Program:
The Internal Medicine program is one of our institutions oldest and distinguished programs. It is a three-year program. Since 1959, we have developed a program built on the application of osteopathic principles and practice. We provide an educational experience that promotes an evidence-based approach to patient care. We foster an individualized, personal and patient centered approach to health care, while emphasizing the biologic, social and emotional components of wellness as well as their effects on disease processes. The resident learns an interdisciplinary team approach to the delivery of health care. We provide adequate exposure to procedures as well as opportunity to interpret recommended studies. We have incorporated the AOA Core Competencies into each aspect of our program, to ensure the graduation of a well-trained general osteopathic internist.
The residents staff a Primary Care Continuity Clinic, where they are the "attending" physician for a panel of patients throughout their three program years.
Rotations are scheduled on a monthly basis and take place in both the inpatient and out patient settings.
Residents must maintain BLS and ACLS certification throughout the duration of their residency.
