The Family Medicine Residency Program's goal is to train competent family medicine physicians, who will contribute to the osteopathic medical profession. Our program provides a broad base, comprehensive educational experience. The program is fully accredited and fulfills all requirements of the Model Program as established by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. The program recently completed inspection and received a five-year approval.
Since the goals and needs of each resident vary, the residency program provides the core curriculum in ambulatory and in-patient care, and is flexible enough to meet the needs of each residents' anticipated practice. Elective rotations are available to fill the experiential needs of each resident. Our residents receive a well-rounded clinical and didactic experience at South Pointe Hospital.
One of the most important aspects of the program is the progressive responsibility of the residents in patient care. Throughout the three-year program, the resident assumes larger patient panels. Continuity of care is emphasized throughout the program years. The residents continuity of care is completed at the Primary Care Clinic, which is located nearby and operated by South Pointe Hospital .
An educational center has been a recent addition to our institution. This center provides our residents and medical students with access to a full service medical library, skills lab and multiple conference rooms with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment.
The Family Medicine resident is expected to maintain their BLS and ACLS certification throughout the three year program.
