Didactics for the Internal Medicine Residency Program:
Each morning, there is a morning report, which consists of the following didactics: attending physician lectures from various sub-specialities, medical student/resident run case presentations, outpatient and inpatient guidelines, Grand Rounds, Journal Club, Cecil's Club, Tumor Board, and ID Conference. More details are as follows:
Journal Club is once a month and resident-led. Often times it will include participation by other ancillary services, including pharmacy residents and our OPP attending.
Cecil's Club is twice a month and also resident-led. A topic based on curriculum standards is chosen, and chapters from Goldman's Cecil Medicine are then assigned for reading. The resident leading the discussion will come up with questions based on the reading.
Once a month, one Internal Medicine resident will present a different oncology topic at Tumor Board Conference, which is also attended by General Surgery attendings and residents, a pathologist, a radiologist, and a hematologist/oncologist. Following, a review of various cases will be presented by the general surgery residents.
Infectious Disease conference occurs once to twice a month, and an ID case seen on either the inpatient or outpatient service is presented and discussed in conjunction with a Infectious Disease attending.
Board Review not only includes Cecil's readings as above, but also review of MedStudy questions on a bimonthly basis, and personal access to the Challenger Program for all 3 years. Questions/lessons are assigned on a monthly basis to help prepare residents for the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.
IM residents also take part in OUHCOM/CORE RPAC Education Days, which are scheduled two (2) times per year with all Osteopathic Internal Medicine programs within the state of Ohio. These include lectures in regards to research, professionalism as well as skills labs in OMM and virtual care.
