General Surgery Residency Program

Dear General Surgery Candidate and Medical Students;

We would like to introduce you to one of the oldest Osteopathic General Surgery Residency progams. On this web site you will be able to review in detail our didactics, available rotations and other information about our programs.

Our program has ACGME initial accreditation and received Osteopathic Recognition. The Cleveland Clinic - Main Campus is our Sponsoring Institution.

We are a member of the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE). We have monthly education days where we share and learn in collaboration with all the other Osteopathic General Surgery programs in the State of Ohio. These include presentations and skills labs with regional and national speakers. At South Pointe, we offer an extensive didactic program which includes a state-of-the-art skills lab. We also are able to receive videoconference presentations from the Cleveland Clinic.

Our clinical rotations cover every aspect of general surgery. You will have an opportunity to complete your Pediatric surgery rotation at our affiliate, Akron Children's Medical Center in Akron, Ohio. Colon and Rectal, Thoracic, and Endocrinology Surgery rotations are scheduled at the Cleveland Clinic. All of these specialty rotations are experienced during your second through fourth year of training. You will also have an opportunity to complete a Burn and a Trauma rotation during the five-year residency.

Our program educates young physicians to be the most well-rounded general surgeons.

Please see the Audition Tab to apply for a 4-week or 2-week audition rotation.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Kristen Conrad Schnetz, DO
Program Director
